Game design is a pretty peculiar and interesting field of art. On the one hand, its modern form has not so rich history and needs more specialists. On the other hand, games and people go side by side during the whole human history. And where games exist, people who create them also have something to create. Game design can be characterized as a science of the art of game creation. A game designer is a person who set rules and balance to a game. This specialist combines a number of skills: he or she should be communicative and have the skill to manage people and teamwork. The game designer should be creative and know both technical and humanitarian disciplines in order to create interesting conceptions and mechanics. It is a person who can be called the core of any game, starting from board games such as “Monopoly” and ends with modern blockbuster video games. And if you think there are no more duties for that kind of professional you are not completely right. The the game designer is an artist who shows his or her vision of reality, passion, and thoughts which should be embodied in a particular game.



Not many people know that the history of games has the same length as the history of humanity. People started to play long before ancient civilizations, as we know them, appeared. Games of agility, strength, and cunning educated hunters, gatherers, and leaders were part of tribal rituals and tests of courage. You can see, that games were an inseparable part of human lives. Nonetheless, except playing games, people also aimed to develop new games. Lets remember the first Olympic games that were part of the peace establishment and praising common values of humanity. Of all the games held throughout Greece, the Olympic Games were the most famous. These sports competitions were part of the non-violent demonstration of dominance. On the other side of the spectrum we have a totally different type of game – chess. This entertainment is the battle of intellects which is still very popular despite the fact that its history reckons ages. Chivalry tournaments were games of bravery and skill also. They were an important part of a life of honorable medieval people. New sports games as basketball and football have a comparatively short life but achieve hearts of millions of people. It is difficult to find a person nowadays who is not familiar with such hits as “Space Invaders” and “Pacman”. They opened an era of the video games culture and became a symbol of the generation.
